Welcome
To all our pupils, parents, past pupils and members of our wider community we welcome you to our school web site. It is my privilege to lead St Columban’s College at this important point in the history of our school.
St Columban’s College opened its doors to provide high quality education provision for the community of Mourne in 1958 and we now rapidly approach our 60th anniversary. The vast collection of photographs that line our walls present a visual image of the experiences of our pupils and the changes that have taken place within our school. They show the many successes of our school in both academic results, music and drama, the sports field and civic society. They portray the history of our community and how the College has played an active role shaping the lives of our students and contributing positively to our community. Our past students are always welcomed back to our school and on each visit they share the stories which are the fabric of our history.
I acknowledge that my role within the school is a very privileged role and that this year ahead will be one of significant change for our entire school community. It is my intention to work with all within our community to ensure that our students are prepared academically and pastorally to meet this challenge. This year we will celebrate together and we will work together to ensure that the tradition of this school is maintained.
Within the College we have an outstanding Pastoral Care system where ‘Every child matters’ and staff promote our policy of making pupils aware of their ‘own dignity and personal qualities.’ Each member of our school staff are the advocate for our pupils and support them in their learning and personal development. The Spiritual dimension of Saint Columbans is aided by the help of our school chaplains. We have a strong Catholic ethos, which manifests itself in many ways, not least the incredible generosity of our pupils when donating to the various charities that are supported by the College. We strongly promote a culture of respect with the pupils; for themselves, each other, with staff, property and the environment. We believe that they carry this with them in all aspects of their life. This generosity of spirt is characterised by our wider Mourne Community.
The success of St Columban’s College has been built upon our close relationships with our parents. It is only through working together that we can ensure that our pupils reach their full potential and the aspirations that we share. This vital partnership with our parents characterises the strength of our College. We acknowledge the confidence and trust that parents place upon the College in choosing St Columban’s for their children.
This web site will be both a source of information and a resource for learning. It is a living resource that we will update regularly and will use to celebrate our pupils.
