Science
In the Science Department we aim to foster interest and enthusiasm and to develop problem solving and practical skills through the exploration and investigation of science. Pupils have the opportunity to develop communication skills based on their ability to discuss environmental, technological, social and ethical issues. As a result, they acquire knowledge and skills that will come in handy in the future when participating in research projects, performing tasks in apa case study format, and collaborating with a team of experienced scientists. At Key Stage 4 pupils are entered for either GCSE Single Award Science or Double Award Science. We hope to stimulate curiosity, interest and enjoyment in science. Through the exploration of science, pupils will acquire the knowledge and understanding to become confident and competent in our technological world.
Pupils are encouraged to develop informed opinions regarding the positive and negative influences of science in our society and realise that scientific concepts are continually developing and changing as our knowledge base increases.
They will gain awareness of the usefulness and limitations of the scientific method and come to appreciate the role of science in everyday life.
