Art & Design
Art and Design in our school encourages pupils to develop their creativity and it explores the roles and achievements of artists and designers in the past and contemporary society.
In Key Stage 3 pupils explore various methods of creating images. They work in 2D and 3D. Multimedia techniques are used to develop their work through to final outcome; they have the opportunity to use materials such as paint, pastel, charcoal, printing-equipment, clay, wire and card. All pupils are encouraged to look at and take influence from a wide range of artists. This hopefully develops their understanding of the importance and relevance of art and design in the world in which they live.
Key stage 3 pupils are all encouraged to enter art competitions in the local community and this helps them to understand issues of responsible citizenship and civic and national responsibilities.
At Key Stage 4 pupils follow the AQA GCSE syllabus. They are required to work in at least two of the following areas- Fine Art, Graphic Design, Textiles or Three Dimensional Design. Pupils are encouraged to explore their own ideas and to discuss influences from other artists. All GCSE work is displayed at the end of the two year period which can give the pupils a tremendous sense of achievement.
