Afterschool Drama Club The club will run on WEDNESDAY from 3.15 to 5.00pm, starting Wednesday 28th October.

3rd Oct 2022

As part of our on-going quest to enrich and extend our pupils’ learning experiences, we will be running our after-school drama club again this year.

The club will initially run for 12 weeks and will be delivered by MARK HUGHES, a former teacher and now founder and artistic director of EDAM (Education through Drama, Art and Media). EDAM is a Newry based company which specialises in providing professional theatre and arts training and support services to schools and other bodies, including the NI Youth Theatre.

Furthermore, Marc is very closely affiliated with the highly acclaimed and All-Ireland winning theatre group, Newpoint Players in Newry. Among the famous names that have “graduated” from Newpoint and gone on to become established and very successful actors are brother and sister, John and Susan Lynch. Just google their names to see how much TV and film work they have done!

Other names on the rise include, Sean Kearns, “Wicked” in the West End; Ryan Mc Parland “ Six Degrees” BBC; Mairaed McKinley RSC (Royal Shakespeare Company); and David Pearse, “Moonboy” RTE.  All of these famous actors had to start somewhere and they started out as local kids who had a go at acting . . . so maybe if your child joins our drama club . . . who knows where it will lead.

It will be open to 20 members and places will be offered on a first-come –first-serve basis. However, to ensure continuity, we expect pupils to make the commitment to regular attendance over the 12 sessions.

This is a wonderful opportunity for our pupils. Apart from giving them an opportunity to realise their full potential, the club will be giving them invaluable access to the professional expertise which is not so readily available in the Kilkeel area.
